The 25 Escudos coin was part of the Second Republic 1974 – 2001 series of Portugal. The coin was minted by the Imprensa Nacional – Casa da Moeda, Portugal between the years 1977 and 1978. The coin itself was made of 75% copper, 25% nickel and had a reeded grained edge. This circular coin had a raised un-decorated rim. It weighed 9.5 grams, and had a diameter of 26mm. The Front of the 25 Escudos Coin features the value 25 ESCUDOS to right of the Escutcheon (Shield coat of arms) below the state name REPÚBLICA PORTUGUESA.
The Back of the 25 Escudo coin features the Laureate Head (left) with the year of the coin, 1977 or 1978 below his chin. The legend reads LIBERDADE DEMOCRACIA. Micro text can also be found on the back of the coin which features the coin designers name NORTE D ALMEIDA.
