The 100 Lire Marconi coin was part of the Lira 1946 – 2001 series of Italy. The coin was minted by the
Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato, Roma, Italy in the year 1974 as a commemorative coin to mark the one hundred year anniversary of Marconi. The coin itself was made of Acmonital and had a reeded grained edge. This circular coin had a raised undecorated rim. It weighed 8 grams, and had a diameter of 27.8mm . The front of the coin features and Early radio-wave receiver. On the left hand side it shows the period of the anniversary in dates “1874” & “1974”. On the right hand side onf the 100 Lire Marconi coin the value is shown as L.100 (100 Lire), below this value the mint mark “R” can be found which signifies that this coin was minted in the Rome Mint. Along the bottom of the coin we can find the name GUGLIELMO MARCONI.
The back of the 100 Lire Marconi coin features the the Head of the inventor Guglielmo Marconi. The legend of the coin features the state name REPVBBLICA ITALIANA. At the bottom of the coin we can see a five pointed star which is used as a spacer ☆ (pointed upwards). The 100 Lire Marconi coin was designed by Guerrino M. Monassi, this is shown by the name MONASSI which is featured on the bottom of the coin.
