The 10 Escudos coin was part of the Estado Novo 1926-1974 series of Portugal. The coin was minted by the Casa da Moeda de Lisboa, Portugal between the years 1971 and 1974. The coin itself was made of 75% copper, 25% nickel and had a lettered plain edge. This circular coin had a raised un-decorated rim. It weighed 10 grams, and had a diameter of 28mm. The known mintage of the 10 Escudos coin is 16,031,074

The front of the 10 Escudos coin features an Emblem the 1481, Escutcheon between four seven pointed stars. The legend along the bottom features the coin value 10$00. Micro text on the left and right of the coin features the coin designers names MARIMO HARATA DEL. on the left and M. NORTE SCUI P. on the right.

The back of the 10 $ coin features an Old sailing ship on the left. The legend features the state name on the left and right REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA. The bottom of the coin displays the year. The year of the coin will be between 1971 and 1974.

The edge of the coin is unique in this series as it features writing CONFIANCA ⟐ ESPERANCA ⟐ FRATERNIDADE ⟐.
