Irish Decimal 1 Punt Coin Front and Back

The Irish Pound Coin coin was part of the Decimal series of Ireland. The coin was minted by the Currency Center, Dublin, Ireland between the years 1990 and 2000. The coin itself was made of cupronickel and had a security edge. This circular coin had a raised gladiform rim. It weighed 10 grams, and had a diameter of 31.1mm. The known mintage of the Irish Pound Coin coin is 161,572,000

The Front

The Front of the Irish Pound Coin features an Irish Red Deer. Below the image of the deer the coin value can be found £1. Lastly the legend featured on the top right of the coin features the word “punt” which is the Irish for Pound.

The coin was designed by Thomas Ryan.

The Back

The back of the Irish Pound coin features a harp. The legend on the back features the state name éire on the left and the year on the coin on the right, the year will be between 1990- 2000. The Irish Pound Coin is 1.83 mm thick. The coin was demonetized on the 02-09-2002.

Millennium Punt Coin

 

The Millennium Punt Coin coin was part of the Decimal series of Ireland. The coin was minted by the Currency Center, Dublin, Ireland between the years 2000 and 2000. The coin itself was made of cupronickel and had a Sunken alternating lines and dots (milled and engrailed) edge. This circular coin had a raised dotted circle rim. It weighed 10.64 grams, and had a diameter of 31mm. The known mintage of the Millennium Punt Coin coin is 5,000,000

The Front

1 Pound (Millennium) Front

The Front of the Irish Millennium Punt Coin features a stylized ancient ship with two stars. On the top left hand side of the coin value can be found £1. The legend along the bottom of coin features the word “Millennium”. The coin was designed by Alan Ardiff and Garrett Stokes.

At the time of its realease this coin caused many problems with the use of vending machines because the coin had different weight compared to the regular £1 coin, which was then rejected by uncalibrated machines.
